For so long I've been looking everywhere for a whimsical cake stand and I didn't find it!
Last week I was shopping at Hobby Lobby and passing by the clearance ailes I found a treasure! I found a beautiful lamp for just $14,00 and the only thing my mind could think was to transform it into a cake stand.
My mission now was to find a nice plate, so the they after I ran to the Good Will praying for a good find and then make my project real. And I got lucky, I did not found just a plate but 2 and a real nice candle stick, and the best of all was how much I spent on, just $9,00 ! Unbelievable!!!
I'm a huge fan of spray paint, I already have done so many nice projects and renewal with it, it's amazing how much you can transform things with just spray paints.
So here we go!
The white one was the lamp and the light pink the candle stick.
All you need is a candle stick or a lamp (in my case), plates (if possible, try to use the same materials, the white stand is made out of wood, but the metal plate fitted like a glove, the light pink is all metal), spray paint and a strong glue (E-6000 or Gorila glue).
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Clean the plate and the base with a dry damp cloth or a wire brush, try to remove all the dust, old paint or adhesive;
- Give it a first thin coat, let it dry, repeat this process until is all the paint is uniform (I gave it 4 coats, this process gives a better finish than one heavy coat)
- With both pieces completely dry, mark the center of the plate, apply glue and put the pieces together ( just becareful to not put to much glue to avoid dripping);
- Let it dry for at least 24 hours befor using it!
That's it! Now I have 2 beautiful cake stands for just $23,00

ReplyDeleteThank you Joann! :)
DeleteJob well done.
ReplyDeleteI had done 2 cake stands for a cpl of years ago and up to date, they are still much appreciated.
A good idea is to buy a plastic cloché for them. Reason is glass covers are heavy and the stands are not too comfortable with the weight. I found in Sweden and it really work well.
