DIY SATURDAY :: RECYCLING CARDBOARD BOXES + EDITABLE LABELS

   Hi everyone! Today I want to share with you a easy recycling project using any kind of cardboard boxes, it's up to you to choose the size tha fits your needs, plus a freebie you will need to label your boxes or anything else you want to label.
    I used a small diaper's box and a Rice Crispie treats box (which is the perfect size to organize my son's past projects from school that I want to keep).
   What I love about this project is besides recycle, we can make something nice without looking cheap. You just have to becareful with some details, which I will let you know as we go along the project.
   Let's get started!

Material needed:

  1. Boxes;
  2. Gift wrap (I like to use those with a grid on the back, each square mesures 1", it's easier to measure and to cut);
  3. Spray Adhesive;
  4. Exacto knife;
  5. Glue ;
  6. Ink pad;
  7. Scissors;
  8. Trash bag

Instructions (Rice Krispies treats box)

  • Unfold the box;
  • Place the box over the gift wrap and cut the size you will need;
  • Open the trash bag, place the box over and spray the adhesive on the right side of the box;
  • With the back of the paper facing up, start placing the unfolded box on the paper (careful with this step, start placing the lid first then fold, lay the body of the box, for last fold the last lid and then stick the paper (if you stick all at once when you fold the corners will rip apart);
  • Cut out the left paper on the lids;
  • Working on the lef or right side of the box: Fold and stick each small side of the box on the paper than trim the edge, keep doing that until the whole side is done;
  • Do the same with the the other side the box ;
  • With the box completely covered, start puffing the ink pad on the edges to give a better finish, just if you want to;
  • For last start to fold to reconstruct the box (use the spray adhesive).

Instructions (Diaper box)

  • Start cuting off the lids with your exacto knife, save the bigger sides;
  • Measure the paper you will need to cover the large sides and the bottom the box, add 2" on each side     and the tops then cut off the paper;
  • Do the same for the small sides and bottom of the box;
  • Choose the side you will start working first (large or small side), spray adhesive on the respective paper, place one side of the box onto the adhesived paper and leave 2" on each side and top, lay the bottom and then the last side;
  • Stick on the box the paper left on the sides and top;
  • Repeat the same steps to cover the other sides;

  • With the box all covered, stick the left over paper on the top covering the edges, then using a exacto knife cut off the paper left on the sides.

  • To give a better finish inside, cut 4 stripes of paper, measuring 2" width and stick inside of the box on each side;

  • With the lids you saved, start making a bottom to place inside of the box;

  • Place both together on the paper and cut the size you will need (2 x);
  • Spray the adhesive on the paper, stick both lids together, do the same to cover the other side of the lids, for last trim the edges with a exacto knife and place inside of the box;
  • Now that you have your box nicely covered it's time to label.

Instructions for the Editable Labels

  1. Download the labels;
  2. Open the file using Adobe Reader, if you don't have you can download it here it's free;
  3. Edit your file using any wording you want, just click on the label and type;
  4. Print and cut out;
  5. I'm providing 5 pages in different colors and 1 page with multiple colors, total of 6 pages, just choose the color / page you want, edit, than when you hit print, choose to print just the page you have worked.
Have fun!

  6. Perfect Idea with the boxes.....around christmas I end up using all sorts of food boxes to wrap gifts in, but this is an even better idea. Goodness knows we all pay for the packaging on our food. We might as well benefit from money already spent. Great idea!!

  9. I was visiting Liz of Brambleberry Cottage and saw your post featured. Great ideas. You know, we just let things slip through our fingers sometimes ... including $$ to buy expensive stuff when we could recycle.

    I saw a recycled Oatmeal box on BH&G's website. They made a ribbon holder) with it. Amazing what one can do if we put our minds to it.

    Cute labels you made available too!

    I've got odds and ends of boxes I have been hanging onto. I think it's the packrat in me ... but maybe this will inspire me to move forward with them? Oh I hope so!

    Enjoyed your post. Thanks, Jenn
